My biggest takeaway this National Minority Health Month: health equity starts long before the exam room.
I enjoyed my conversation with the fabulous Jasmin Hundal, M.D.,DipABLM, M.S., M.P.H because we always keep it authentic.

As both a patient and professional, I’ve lived how access—transportation, food, housing, and being heard—shapes outcomes. When patients are dismissed, trust breaks. And sometimes, one negative experience is enough to make someone walk away from care entirely.
I’ve had to navigate how I show up in clinical spaces just to be taken seriously. I’ve had to soften my tone so I won’t be accused of being confrontational and deemed “the angry Black woman.”That shouldn’t be part of anyone’s healthcare journey.
Cultural competence isn’t a one-time training; it’s a daily practice. And real change requires partnership beyond clinic walls, meeting communities where they are.
Awareness isn’t enough.
