This 10-year milestone feels especially meaningful after returning from the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium a few weeks ago, surrounded by science, hope, advocacy, and community.
That precious time reminded me that I didn’t arrive here alone.
My advocacy didn’t begin with a stage, on camera, or at a conference. It began with this blog.

In 2018, a sweet guy named Doug came across my blog and messaged me. He wrote, “I love your authenticity and humor. Can I repost on Twitter?”
In that moment, social media became a lifeline for connections, support, and friendship. Sweet Doug died from stage IV cancer a few years ago. He played a pivotal part in getting my story out there.
In the early days, my path crossed with the following people at different times in my life, who also played significant roles in helping me discover my identity in advocacy:
John, Rudy, Jeff, Matthew Z., Mallory, Bekah, Ben, Nick, Danielle, Abigail, Stacey, Marc, and more!
Through them, I virtually met even more people who believed in my voice before I fully did, who recommended me for panels, trusted me with their stories, and opened doors to rooms I never would’ve had access to. Over the years, so many helped turn my pain into purpose without having to make myself small to do so.
My dramatic personality continues to shine.
Though I still dream of Broadway and movie sets, I find ways to “perform” to help educate and empower others in ways that resonate without losing the impact.
The essence of me before cancer never left. And for that, I am grateful.
Until next time,
Warrior Megsie
